Local SEO Cost: What Local SEO Costs Per Month and Per Hour

By my estimate, local SEO cost in the UK sits mostly between £300 and £1,500 a month for a single-location business, with one-off setups from £300 and hourly work from £30 to £150 depending on who does it. Multi-location businesses pay per location, and the cheapest packages buy almost nothing. This guide sets out what local SEO costs per month, per hour and per package, what each price includes, what the US market charges, how to estimate your own number with a simple calculator, and how to tell whether the money is coming back as calls and bookings. The prices on this site are published, so the ranges can be checked against a real one.

Local SEO cost at a glance

Local SEO is the work that puts a business with a physical presence or a service area into the map pack and the local results, and it is priced differently from general SEO because much of the work happens on the Google Business Profile, in citations and in reviews rather than on the website. In the UK, ongoing local SEO for one location commonly costs £300 to £1,500 a month; a one-off setup or clean-up costs £300 to £1,500; freelancers charge £30 to £80 an hour and specialists and agencies £75 to £150; and businesses with several branches pay a reduced per-location rate, typically £150 to £500 per location per month on top of a base fee.

Where these figures come from: the price ranges on this page are BoltClicks’ own estimate of what the UK market typically charges. They are not taken from a published survey, and real quotes vary with the provider and the job. My own fees are listed separately further down.

How it is boughtTypical UK costBest for
Monthly retainer, one location£300 to £1,500 a monthMost local businesses: trades, clinics, salons, restaurants, professional firms
One-off setup or audit£300 to £1,500New businesses, unclaimed or messy profiles, a base before deciding on a retainer
Hourly or day rate£30 to £150 an hour; £300 to £900 a dayFixing a suspension, training staff, a second opinion
Multi-locationBase fee plus £150 to £500 per location per monthChains, franchises, businesses with several branches
Packages£99 to £800 a month by tierBuyers who want a fixed price; check the deliverables closely

As with all SEO, the fee is hours multiplied by a rate plus direct costs, and local SEO needs fewer hours than a national campaign because the levers are concentrated: one profile, a few pages, a review routine, a set of citations. That is why a properly run local campaign can cost less than £1,000 a month and still take the map pack in a town, and why the question to ask at any price is how many of those levers are counted into the monthly scope and who is pulling them.

What local SEO actually includes

Knowing what the work is makes the prices easy to judge. A complete local SEO service covers six things, and a quote should say which of them it includes and how many hours go to each.

WorkstreamWhat is doneTypical share of the monthly time
Google Business ProfileClaim and verification, categories, services with prices, areas, hours, description, photos, posts, chat and booking links, spam reports20 to 35 per cent
Reviews and reputationReview request routine, links and cards, replies to every review, monitoring of other platforms10 to 20 per cent
Citations and NAP consistencyName, address and phone number made identical across directories, associations and social profiles; wrong listings fixed10 to 20 per cent, front-loaded
Website: service and location pagesOne page per service and per area, local schema markup, tap-to-call, tracking20 to 35 per cent
Local links and contentLinks and mentions from local suppliers, press, sponsorships and community sites; local guides and posts10 to 20 per cent
Tracking and reportingMap pack positions from inside the area, calls, forms, profile insights, Search Console, a written report5 to 10 per cent

A local SEO quote that is all profile posts and directory submissions, with no pages and no reviews routine, is a fraction of the service at a fraction of the value. A quote that is all website work and never touches the profile is missing the part that takes most of the calls. The balance shifts by business, but every workstream should appear.

Local SEO cost per month: the tiers

Monthly feeHours it roughly buysWhat is realisticSuits
£99 to £2501 to 3Profile maintenance, a post or two, a report; no pages, few reviewsA bridge for a business that has done the setup already; not a campaign
£300 to £6003 to 8Profile fully managed, review routine, citation fixes, on-page fixes to key pages, written reportingSole traders and one-location businesses in light to moderate competition
£600 to £1,0008 to 12Everything above plus new service and area pages each month, local link work, cost and situation guidesEstablished local businesses, trades covering several towns, clinics and professional firms
£1,000 to £1,50012 to 20A full programme: content, local PR, conversion work, several areas, monthly strategy callBusinesses in competitive cities, multi-service firms, two or three locations
£1,500 to £5,000+20 to 60Multi-location management, many pages, PR at scale, dedicated reportingChains, franchises, regional brands, national firms with local branches

The tiers assume a UK specialist or agency rate between £75 and £150 an hour. A freelancer at £40 an hour delivers more hours for the same fee, which is worth more only if the hours are spent well. A central London agency at £180 an hour delivers fewer hours, which may still be the right choice for a business in a fiercely competitive London market that needs senior work. The hours, and what fills them, are the comparison that matters.

Local SEO cost per hour and per day

Hourly local SEO work is common for three situations: a suspended or unverified Google Business Profile that needs expert handling, training an owner or office manager to run the routine themselves, and a second opinion on a proposal or a report. UK freelancers charge £30 to £80 an hour, independent specialists £75 to £150, agencies £100 to £200; day rates run from about £300 for a freelancer to £900 for a senior consultant. A profile suspension typically takes two to six hours to diagnose and appeal properly, a training day covers the full routine, and an audit of a single-location business takes three to eight hours. Hourly work is the right buy when the problem is specific; ongoing local visibility needs the routine every month, which is what retainers are for.

Local SEO packages and one-off setups

A one-off local SEO setup is the best first purchase for most businesses that have never done this. It claims and verifies the profile, completes every section, builds the review routine, fixes the citations, adds local schema and a location page, and hands over a written process. In the UK it costs £300 to £1,500 depending on how many services and areas there are and how messy the existing listings were. After that, the business can run the routine itself, buy a light retainer, or buy the full programme with the foundations already in place.

Monthly packages are priced by tier and deliverables. The honest ones list the hours; the rest list tasks. “Ten citations, four posts, two blog articles and a report” sounds like a lot until you price each item: citation submissions take minutes, posts take minutes, and a template article that ranks for nothing is not a deliverable. Ask instead what the package does to the profile, the pages and the reviews each month, and how the map pack positions and calls are tracked. A package that cannot answer is a subscription, not a service.

Multi-location and franchise pricing

Businesses with several branches are priced per location because each profile, each set of citations and each location page is separate work, but the work shares strategy, templates and reporting, so the per-location rate falls as the count rises. A typical UK structure is a base fee of £500 to £1,500 a month covering strategy, the website and reporting, plus £150 to £500 per location per month for profile management, reviews, citations and the location page. A ten-branch business might pay £2,500 to £5,000 a month all in; a franchise with fifty locations negotiates a lower per-location rate and often shares the cost between franchisor and franchisees. The economics only work with process: a review routine every branch follows, a photo standard, a template for location pages that is still written individually, and a report that shows each branch’s map pack positions and calls separately.

Local SEO cost calculator

You can estimate local SEO cost without a tool. Count the hours the work needs each month, choose the rate of the provider you are considering, and add any direct costs. The table gives the ranges and two worked examples.

StepRangeExample: one-van plumber, one townExample: dental practice, competitive city
1. Profile and reviews1 to 4 hours a month23
2. Citations and listings1 to 3 hours a month, more in month one12
3. Pages and content2 to 10 hours a month36
4. Local links and PR1 to 6 hours a month13
5. Tracking and reporting1 to 2 hours a month11
Hours total815
Rate£30 to £80 freelancer; £75 to £150 specialist or agencySpecialist at £80Agency at £120
Direct costsReview cards, a local sponsorship, a directory that charges£40£150
Monthly estimateHours x rate + direct costs8 x £80 + £40 = £68015 x £120 + £150 = £1,950

The estimate also tells you what a quote cannot contain. A £150 a month package at any realistic rate is under two hours; it cannot include pages, links and a review routine, whatever the deliverables list says. And a £3,000 a month quote for a single-location business in a market town implies twenty to forty hours of work that the business almost certainly does not need. The sums are simple, and most providers would rather you did not do them.

Doing it yourself: what it costs in time

Local SEO is the part of search marketing a business owner can genuinely do alone, and many should, at least at the start. The Google Business Profile is free; reviews cost nothing but asking; citations are a tedious afternoon; a location page is a few hours with a decent website builder. The realistic cost is time: eight to fifteen hours to set up properly, then two to four hours a month to keep it running, plus the learning curve. The parts owners usually get wrong are the categories, the service areas, the business name rules, the schema and the tracking, and the part they usually stop doing is the review routine. A sensible middle path is to buy the setup once, with a written process, and run the monthly routine yourself; the local SEO service page describes both the done-for-you version and what the handover includes.

Local SEO cost in the US

US local SEO prices run higher than the UK’s. Single-location businesses commonly pay $300 to $2,000 a month, with most in the $500 to $1,500 range; one-off setups $500 to $2,500; hourly rates $50 to $150 for freelancers and $100 to $250 for agencies; multi-location programmes from $2,500 a month upwards. The work is identical, with a few extra costs in categories that need licensing checks for Local Services Ads or advanced verification. For a US business, a remote specialist on UK hours is often the best value, which is why the international plans on this site are priced in dollars and include the same weekly written report.

Why £99 local SEO rarely works

The £99 local SEO package is the most heavily advertised product in the industry, and it exists because £99 is an easy yes. At any realistic rate it buys one hour of work a month, which is enough to post to the profile and send an automated report. It does not build pages, it does not run a review routine, it does not fix citations one by one, and the cheapest versions still submit the business to directories that Google ignores or distrusts. The businesses that do well on small budgets are the ones that bought the setup once and then did the routine themselves, not the ones renting an hour a month. If £99 is the whole budget, spend it on a few months of a proper setup instead and keep the routine in-house.

Is local SEO worth the cost?

Local SEO is usually the best-returning search spend a local business can make, because the map pack sends calls from people who need the service now. The arithmetic: a local business with an average job worth £150 in gross profit needs five extra jobs a month to cover a £750 retainer; a dentist with a new patient worth £600 in first-year profit needs two; a solicitor with a client worth £2,000 needs less than one. Those are low bars in most towns once the profile is complete and the reviews flow. The return arrives faster than general SEO too: a well-built profile can reach the map pack in four to eight weeks in light competition, three to six months in a city. Judge it on tracked calls, forms and bookings rather than on rankings, and compare it with what the same money buys in paid leads, which stop the moment the payment does.

Whether reviews move rankings, and where, is set out in reviews for SEO; it is worth reading before any quote that promises review growth.

What local SEO costs here

Local SEO is included in every SEO plan here rather than sold separately, because the profile, the pages and the reviews are one job. SEO packages start at £299 a month on the pricing page (Basic £299 or $379, Standard £449 or $579, Professional £649 or $829), each a counted scope of keywords and blog posts with Google Business Profile optimisation included. Monthly retainers start at £650: SEO as a single channel on the Starter retainer, with local SEO inside it, is £650 a month in the UK and $800 internationally: Google Business Profile, verification, citations, reviews routine, service and area pages, technical fixes, and a written report every week. Two channels together, usually SEO plus Google Ads, are £1,200 a month or $1,500; the full stack is from £4,000 or $5,000. A one-off SEO Foundation package, which includes the profile setup, is £850. Fees are paid a month in advance with one month’s notice, everything is built in accounts you own, and there is no cost per lead. The guide to SEO service cost covers the wider market prices for every kind of SEO work.

The terms on a local SEO quote, defined

Local SEO quotes borrow the whole vocabulary of search engine optimisation and add a few terms of their own, so here is the key. Search engine optimisation is the work of appearing higher in the organic results; search engine results pages, or SERPs, are the results themselves, and for local searches they include the map pack and the local finder. Organic traffic and organic search mean unpaid visits from those results. Keyword research finds the searches customers make and maps them to pages; search intent is why they searched. Technical SEO covers crawling, indexation, site speed, Core Web Vitals, structured data or schema markup, broken links and redirects; on-page SEO is title tags, meta descriptions, headings, content and internal linking on each page; off-page SEO is authority from outside: link building, digital PR, brand mentions, reviews and local citations. A citation is any mention of your name, address and phone number, and NAP consistency means they match everywhere. A service area business hides its address and lists the areas it travels to. Landing pages, service pages and location pages are the pages that carry local searches; blog posts and guides support them. Domain authority is a third-party estimate of link strength; topical authority is depth on a subject. Ranking factors are the signals Google uses; keyword rankings are your positions; conversion rate is the share of visitors who call or book; lead generation is the result. AI Overviews, AI Mode and the answer engines are the generative layer of search, and AI visibility is being named inside them, which for local businesses runs through the same profile and reviews. Pricing models are retainers, hourly rates, project fees and packages; monthly reporting should be a written document; a seo audit is the starting point; an account manager is the layer between you and the person doing the work. Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4 and the Google Business Profile insights are the free tools an honest report is built on.

Frequently asked questions

How much does local SEO cost per month in the UK?

Most single-location businesses pay £300 to £1,500 a month. At any price, judge the plan by what is counted each month: which pages, keywords and posts are delivered, what happens on the Business Profile and who does the work. £600 to £1,000 buys a full programme for most local businesses; £1,000 to £1,500 suits competitive cities and multi-service firms; multi-location businesses pay a base fee plus a per-location rate.

How much does local SEO cost per hour?

UK freelancers charge £30 to £80 an hour, specialists £75 to £150 and agencies £100 to £200. Day rates run from about £300 to £900. Hourly work suits profile suspensions, training and second opinions; monthly retainers suit ongoing visibility.

Is there a local SEO cost calculator?

Estimate the hours the six workstreams need each month, multiply by the provider’s rate and add direct costs. The worked examples in this guide come out at £680 a month for a one-van plumber in one town and £1,950 for a dental practice in a competitive city.

How much does local SEO cost for a small business?

Typically £300 to £1,000 a month, or a one-off setup of £300 to £1,500 followed by running the routine in-house. Small businesses in light competition often need less than the market assumes because the levers are concentrated in the profile and the reviews.

Is local SEO free?

The Google Business Profile is free and most of the work can be done by the owner. The cost is time, eight to fifteen hours to set up and a few hours a month to maintain, and the mistakes that come from not knowing the rules on names, categories, addresses and verification.

Can I do local SEO myself?

Yes, and many businesses should. The profile, reviews, citations and a location page are all within reach. The parts that usually need help are verification problems, schema, tracking, competitive cities and businesses with several locations or services.

How much do local SEO packages cost?

From £99 to about £800 a month by tier. Judge a package by the hours and the workstreams it covers, not by the length of the deliverables list; a package with no pages, no reviews routine and no tracking is a subscription rather than a service.

What does multi-location local SEO cost?

Usually a base fee of £500 to £1,500 a month plus £150 to £500 per location per month, falling as the number of locations rises. A ten-branch business might pay £2,500 to £5,000 a month all in.

How long does local SEO take to work?

A complete, verified profile can reach the map pack in four to eight weeks in a town with light competition and three to six months in a city. Reviews and area pages keep the position and widen it over the following year.

What is included in local SEO pricing?

Google Business Profile management, reviews and reputation, citations and NAP consistency, service and location pages with local schema, local links and content, and tracking with a written report. Ask which of the six a quote includes and how many hours go to each.
