What the retainer covers.
Broken basics cost rankings; month one repairs titles, speed and structure.
Terms people search when they are ready to pay — not vanity traffic.
A written plan, agreed before anything is published.
Titles and descriptions written for humans, not keyword stuffing.
Every keyword, every position, updated monthly in one sheet.
Nothing bought, nothing spammy — rankings that survive updates.
Earned rankings, honest timeline.
- Month 1: technical and on-page fixes.
- Months 2–3: pages built around buyer terms.
- Months 4–6: authority and steady climbing.
- A tracker you can open any day of the month.
Who this is for
SEO earns its place when your customers search before they buy, and when you can afford to wait a few months for the return. That describes a lot of UK businesses — trades, clinics, professional services, local suppliers, B2B firms with long sales cycles.
It’s a poor fit if you need enquiries this month. In that case paid ads are the honest answer, and SEO runs alongside as the long game. I’d rather tell you that on the first call than take six months of retainer and hope.
First 30 days — foundation
Most sites lose rankings to problems nobody looked for. The first month is about finding and fixing those, and putting measurement in place so progress is visible rather than claimed.
- Full technical audit: crawl errors, indexing problems, redirect chains, broken links, duplicate and thin content, canonical issues, Core Web Vitals
- Google Search Console and GA4 set up or corrected — in accounts you own, so you can check the data yourself any time
- UK keyword research using UK search volume and UK phrasing, separated into commercial, local and informational intent
- Keyword-to-page mapping, so every important page has one clear target instead of three pages competing for the same term
- Competitor gap analysis: which terms your competitors rank for that you don’t
Days 30–90 — on-page and structure
- Title tags, meta descriptions and heading structure rewritten across priority pages
- Body copy improved on service pages to actually answer the query rather than describe the company
- Internal linking rebuilt so authority flows to the pages that earn money
- Location pages built or improved for the towns and cities you genuinely serve
- Schema markup added so Google understands the business, its services and its service area
- A content plan with briefs, ready to hand to a writer — or written by me if you’d rather
Ongoing months
- Monthly rank tracking in a shared sheet that stays yours
- Continued on-page work and new content briefs
- Backlink outreach and UK directory citations, but only where a link is genuinely worth having
- A weekly written report: what moved, what traffic did, what enquiries came in, what’s next
How long it actually takes
| Type of term | Realistic timeline |
|---|---|
| Long-tail and low competition | 4–10 weeks |
| Local service terms in a small town | 2–4 months |
| Competitive city terms | 4–8 months |
| National commercial terms | 8–12 months, sometimes longer |
A brand new domain sits at the slower end of every row. These are patterns, not promises — Google doesn’t publish a timetable and anybody who quotes you one is inventing it.
Local SEO and Google Business Profile
If you sell to one city rather than the whole country, the local side is where the work concentrates — that is covered in detail on the SEO agency Leicester page.
For a UK business serving a specific area, the map pack often matters more than the blue links. That work includes optimising your Google Business Profile, keeping NAP details consistent across directories, building relevant local citations, and encouraging reviews properly.
What I won’t do
- Buy links. Paid link networks work until they don’t, and the recovery costs more than the ranking was worth.
- Publish AI-spun filler. Volume without substance stopped working a while ago.
- Report on vanity keywords. Ranking first for a phrase nobody searches is not a result.
- Guarantee a position. Nobody controls Google’s ranking system, so nobody can promise a spot in it.
What a client said, and what you can check
“Great communication and very helpful throughout the process. Took the time to explain everything clearly and set up the campaign professionally. Focused on quality results rather than just numbers. Highly recommended.”
This is one of three client reviews published so far; the other two, from a UK SEO client and a US Google Ads client, are on the home page. Every figure comes from the client’s own ad account, and a review goes on this site only when it is real.
What you can check before you pay
- Prices published in full on the pricing page — SEO packages from £299 a month, monthly retainers from £650 — not hidden behind a sales call
- Month to month, with one month’s notice and no lock-in contract
- Every account, profile and file stays in your name; I work through partner access
- A written report every week, in plain English
- One specialist does the work, from the audit to the report
What people ask before starting SEO.
Can you guarantee first page rankings?
No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Nobody controls Google’s algorithm. What can be committed to is the work itself: a proper technical audit, keyword research against real UK search data, on-page optimisation across your priority pages, and weekly written reporting that shows honestly what moved and what didn’t.
How is SEO different from Google Ads?
Google Ads buys you a position immediately and stops the day you stop paying. SEO earns a position slowly and keeps working after the invoices stop, but takes months to arrive. Most businesses that can afford both run ads for cash flow now and SEO for margin later.
Do I keep the work if we stop?
Yes, all of it. Search Console and GA4 are in your name, the on-page changes live on your website, the keyword research and rank tracking sheet are yours to keep, and any content produced belongs to you. There is nothing to hand back because nothing was ever held.
Will you write the content too?
The keyword research, content plan and briefs are always included. Writing the articles can be added on if you’d rather not do it in-house — that’s quoted separately based on volume.
My site is on a hosted website builder. Does that matter?
Less than people fear. Both can rank perfectly well for most local and service businesses. There are technical limits on very large or complex sites, and I’ll tell you if your platform is genuinely holding you back rather than pushing a rebuild you don’t need.
Is search a realistic channel for you?
Send me your site. If paid ads are the better first move, I’ll say that instead.
Six things worth reading first.
Before you commit budget to SEO, these pieces explain what has actually changed and what usually goes wrong. All are written from real audits, not from a checklist.
- AI Overviews and SEO: how to keep clicks when Google answers — which query types are losing clicks, which are not, and how to measure it in your own Search Console.
- Common SEO mistakes: 10 errors that quietly kill your leads — ordered by what each one costs in lost enquiries, with the fix and the order to tackle them.
- International SEO services: rank in every country you sell to — site structure, hreflang, localisation and link building per market, for businesses selling across borders.
When the technical side is sound and the gap is the writing itself, that is handled separately under SEO copywriting services.
Two newer pages sit under this service: the technical SEO service, for sites that should rank but do not, and the SEO agency Kent page for businesses across the county.
For businesses in Cheshire, the SEO services Knutsford page covers the town and the surrounding area with the same approach.
For visibility inside AI Overviews, AI Mode and the AI assistants as well as Google’s own results, the AI SEO agency page explains the generative engine optimisation work that is included in every plan.
For electrical businesses, the SEO for electricians page covers the map pack, the service and location pages and the review routine that bring the trade its calls.
For locksmith businesses, the SEO for locksmiths page covers the map pack, the verification rules and the emergency pages that bring the trade its calls.
For plumbing and heating firms, the SEO for plumbers page covers the map pack, reviews and the content that turns searches into booked jobs. The SEO for tradesmen page links the guides for individual trades, from plumbers and electricians to builders and bathroom fitters, and dental practices have their own dental SEO page, covering treatment pages, local search and the GDC advertising guidance.
If you want the diagnosis before any ongoing work, the SEO audit consultant page explains the full website audit: technical, content, links, local and AI visibility, delivered as a written report with a prioritised fix list.
Two narrower jobs have their own pages. Online shops are covered on the ecommerce growth agency page: product feeds, faceted navigation, Product structured data, speed on product pages and the UK rules on what a price may legally say. A new site that needs search settled before it is designed is covered on the web design and SEO package page, with the page plan, URLs, speed and tracking agreed in one written quote.
For the full list of what the monthly plans include, what an SEO expert does each week and how the service compares with an agency, a marketplace freelancer or an in-house hire, see the expert SEO services page. Kent businesses that want search, Google Ads and Meta Ads run together can start with the digital marketing agency Kent page.
Agencies that resell search work can read about white label SEO for agencies: per-client pricing, margins and who owns the accounts. If you want advice rather than a done-for-you plan, start with SEO consulting services. SEO packages start at £299 a month on the pricing page; the SEO monthly retainer levels start at £650.
Working in one county rather than nationally? Devon is three separate markets under one name — a useful illustration of why county-wide SEO promises rarely survive the numbers. Yorkshire is the larger version of the same problem: four county areas hiding behind one search term, with Doncaster worked through as the example. City searches follow the same rule: Liverpool and the Mersey search split, Wakefield and the Five Towns, Dundee on both banks of the Tay and, for a US county, York, Pennsylvania, town by town.
Every town, county, trade and sector page is listed in one place on the locations hub, so you can pick the closest match to your own business.
